Kerem Hasan is regarded as one of the most exciting young British conductors. Winning the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award in the summer of 2017 laid the foundation for his flourishing international career. From September 2019 to June 2023, he served as Chief Conductor of the Tiroler Symphonieorchester in Innsbruck.
Highlights of the 2024/2025 season include guest engagements with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Dresdner Philharmonie, and Staatsorchester Stuttgart. He will make his debuts with the Residentie Orkest, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, and Izmir State Symphony Orchestra. Returning invitations will take him to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Kymi Sinfonietta, PHION Orkest, and Tonkünstler-Orchester. In North America, he will make his debut with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec in March 2025. Additionally, he leads a revival of Mozart’s ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ at the Welsh National Opera. The exchange and work with young musicians is particularly important to him, shown this season through his projects with the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Among his recent successes are opera performances at Opera North (‘La Rondine’), at the English National Opera (‘Carmen’, ‘Cosi’), in Glyndebourne (‘Die Zauberflöte’), with Glyndebourne on Tour (‘The Rake’s Progress’), at the Welsh National Opera (‘La Forza del destino’), and at the Tyrolean State Theatre (‘Samson et Dalila’, ‘Rigoletto’, ‘The Rape of Lucretia’, ‘La Traviata’). He has worked with the Concertgebouworkest, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, SWR Symphonieorchester, MDR-Sinfonieorchester, ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Filarmonica Teatro La Fenice, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. In the USA he has conducted the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Utah Symphony Orchestra, and Minnesota Orchestra.
Kerem Hasan has attended masterclasses with David Zinman, Edo de Waart, Gianandrea Noseda, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Robert Spano. He has gained further experience by assisting his mentor, Bernard Haitink, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Concertgebouworkest, and Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks.
In the summer of 2016, Kerem Hasan attended the Conducting Academy of the Aspen Music Festival for the first time. He returned to the festival the following year and subsequently received the Aspen Conductor Prize. In August 2022, he returned to Aspen to conduct the Aspen Chamber Orchestra in concert.
Born in London in 1992, Kerem Hasan studied piano and conducting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He later deepened his conducting training at the Zurich University of the Arts under the guidance of Johannes Schlaefli.
