With deep sadness: Maestro Seiji Ozawa

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we learn of the passing of Maestro Seiji Ozawa. This marks an immense loss for the world of music and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Seiji’s remarkable contributions to music will continue to inspire generations of artists to come, and his artistry, his warmth, and his generosity will serve as a model for young musicians worldwide.

We remember very fondly KD Schmid's personal connection with Seiji, including our fruitful work together during his tenure as Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, an era which left an indelible mark on the orchestra, the city of Boston, and, indeed, the whole world. As we collectively mourn the loss of a true musical luminary, we find solace in the memories and music he leaves behind.

We also celebrate the extraordinary impact Seiji left on our world through his kindness, his deep humanity, and his music – a legacy which will endure forever. Our thoughts are with all those who were touched by his remarkable spirit.
