- A success story that has made the four musicians at home in the world's great concert halls. The siblings Christian Tetzlaff (violin) and Tanja Tetzlaff (cello), Hanna Weinmeister (viola) and Elisabeth Kufferath (violin) share a decades-long friendship and a great, unbroken passion for chamber music, with which they have been delighting audiences worldwide since their first concert in 1994.
The 2024 Jubilee Tour offers two multi-faceted programmes that look to both the past and the present of chamber music:
Arnold Schönberg's revolutionary String Quartet No. 1 in D minor, op. 7 will be the focus at the end of his anniversary year. Jörg Widmann's Choral Quartet, composed in 2003, explores existential questions with 'last sounds'. A contemporary composition with deeply felt emotionality. In his visionary String Quartet No. 14 in C sharp minor op. 131, Ludwig van Beethoven unfolds a seven-movement universe without interruption - a masterpiece that speaks far beyond its time. Also on the programme is Johannes Brahms' Second String Quartet in A minor op. 51/2, a work that Arnold Schönberg described in his essay 'Brahms, the Progressive' as a bridge to modernism.
The centenary tour will take the ensemble to some of Europe's most prestigious concert halls:
Tue, 26 November 2024 - Kölner Philharmonie, (Beethoven, Widmann, Brahms )
Wed, 27 November 2024 - Elbphilharmonie Hamburg (Schönberg, Widmann, Brahms)
Thu, 28 November 2024 - Wigmore Hall, London (Beethoven, Widmann, Brahms)
Fri, 29 November 2024 - Hofkapelle der Residenz, Munich (Schoenberg, Widmann, Brahms)
Sat, 30 November 2024 - Ansitz Reinsperg, Bolzano (Schoenberg, Widmann, Brahms)
An ensemble culture in a class of its own
Each of the four members of the Tetzlaff Quartett is an exceptional soloist - but when they play together as a chamber music ensemble, they create an unmistakable sound, characterised by subtle communication, a willingness to experiment and a shared, profound musical language.
