Following three successful opening concerts in the Netherlands, Amsterdam Sinfonietta now embarks on the international leg of its 2025 spring tour. Over the coming weeks, the ensemble will give another twelve performances in countries including Germany, Greece, Poland and Slovenia – appearing in renowned venues such as the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the National Polish Radio Concert Hall in Katowice, and the Megaron in Athens.
This tour marks Bruce Liu’s debut with Amsterdam Sinfonietta. He performs Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto and the "Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise brillante", in versions for piano and string orchestra. Chopin’s music has has long been central to Liu’s repertoire, not least since winning the Chopin Competition.
The programme also includes Tchaikovsky’s "Souvenir de Florence" and Mieczysław Weinberg’s Aria op. 9. The program is directed by Amsterdam Sinfonietta’s concertmaster and artistic director, Candida Thompson. The arrangements of Chopin’s works for string orchestra reflect a hallmark of the ensemble: Amsterdam Sinfonietta is known for its distinctive approach to arranging and interpreting music for strings.
The tour is planned and produced by KD SCHMID.
