Tianyi Lu inspires with international successes: Highlights of the 2024/25 season

Following her critically acclaimed debut appearance at the 2024 BBC Proms with the BBC Symphony Orchestra ('Lu revelled in its sensuous beauty and dramatic surges, aided by warm and generous playing by the BBCSO', Bachtrack), Tianyi Lu’s 2024/25 season has continued with a series of exceptional performances across Europe and the USA.

In September, Lu made her third appearance with the Seattle Symphony, conducting a diverse programme including Kaija Saariaho’s 'Ciel d'hiver', Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major with Alexandra Dariescu, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. In October, she returned to the UK to appear with the Hallé Orchestra, where her programme including Dvorak’s Cello Concerto with Alban Gerhardt, and Brahms’ Symphony No. 3, was wonderfully received by audiences in Manchester, Lincoln, and Sheffield. She then led the Staatsorchester Stuttgart giving the world premiere of Mischa Tangian’s 'The Order of Time' for percussion and orchestra. Later this month, Lu returns to the London Philharmonic Orchestra, taking over two performances originally scheduled with Sir Andrew Davis. Sir Andrew was a mentor to Tianyi at the very beginning of her career, and also a dear friend, and she will dedicate the concerts ‘in remembrance of the profound impact he had on so many lives’.

In spring 2025, Lu looks forward to making her debut with the New York Philharmonic and San Diego Symphony Orchestra, as well as performances in Europe with MDR-Sinfonieorchester, hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Turku Philharmonic and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
