In celebration of Maurice Ravel’s 150th anniversary, acclaimed pianist Seong-Jin Cho releases his album, "Ravel: The Complete Solo Piano Works", on January 17, 2025. The recording is now available digitally and as a two-CD set on Deutsche Grammophon. This release is the first in Seong-Jin’s tribute to Ravel, with a second album of the composer’s two piano concertos, recorded with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Andris Nelsons, set to follow in February. A deluxe edition containing the complete recordings comes out on 11 April.
Having admired Ravel’s music since childhood and honed his connection to the composer’s works during his time at the Paris Conservatoire, Cho’s interpretations reflect his profound understanding of French piano literature. From the serene elegance of ‘Pavane pour une infante défunte’ to the virtuosic complexity of ‘Gaspard de la nuit’, Cho’s artistry brings Ravel’s music vividly to life.
This release marks an important milestone for Seong-Jin Cho, whose career continues to flourish following his Chopin Competition win a decade ago. With Ravel: The Complete Solo Piano Works, Cho invites listeners to explore the brilliance and beauty of Ravel’s music. Stay tuned for his upcoming recording of the piano concertos in February, completing this extraordinary celebration of Ravel’s legacy.
