Over the coming weeks, Kazuki Yamada opens the new season with two of his orchestras — the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, where he is Music Director, and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, where he begins his first season as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director.

It begins tonight, 17 September, at Symphony Hall in Birmingham, with Mahler's Symphony No. 2, the "Resurrection". Yamada is joined by soprano Anna Patalong, contralto Jess Dandy and the CBSO Chorus.

A few days later, on 22 and 24 September, he returns to Symphony Hall with the CBSO and pianist Alice Sara Ott for Grieg's Piano Concerto, in a programme alongside Bax's "Tintagel", Anna Clyne's "Restless Oceans" and Debussy's "La mer".

On 4 October, Yamada opens his first season as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin at the Philharmonie. Alice Sara Ott joins him once again for Grieg, in a programme that also features the European premiere of Anna Clyne's "Woman of the Mountain", Charles Ives's "The Unanswered Question" and Debussy's "La mer".
