After a long and distinguished career, Kari Kriikku today announces his retirement: 

“It has been an honour to have been able to fulfil my life’s ambitions of creating wonderful music with wonderful partners. I have enjoyed a wonderful career but the time has come for me to retire from my professional activities.” 

Renowned for his bold artistic vision and adventurous spirit, Kari Kriikku has shaped contemporary clarinet repertoire like few others. His career features numerous world premieres of concertos written for him by leading composers including Unsuk Chin, John Buckley, HK Gruber, Jukka Tiensuu, Kaija Saariaho and Magnus Lindberg. He has released multiple acclaimed albums, performed with major orchestras across the globe, and served as Artistic Director of the Avanti! Chamber Ensemble from 1998 to 2024.
