The season begins with a European tour in September. On the programme Prokofiev and Chopin second piano concertos under the baton of Sir Antonio Pappano, including performances in Eastern and Central Europe. The residency continues in November with the world premiere of a new Piano Concerto by composer Donghoon Shin, written especially for Seong-Jin Cho. “Donghoon and I met a few years ago, and since then we’ve become really good friends,” says Cho. “I find his music fascinating—he seamlessly interweaves influences from classic literature with his own unique voice. I believe this new concerto will be not only deeply romantic but also full of fresh charm and depth.”

In February,  Seong-Jin Cho joins Gianandrea Noseda for Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto, a work they recorded together with the LSO in 2021, and embarks on a tour to Spain. He also appears throughout the season in chamber music concerts as well as in recital at LSO St Luke’s.

Seong-Jin Cho's first studio recording with the London Symphony Orchestra was in 2016, recording Chopin’s First Concerto with Noseda. Nearly a decade on —and following many intense and successful collaborations— this Artist Portrait marks a new chapter in a close and evolving partnership.
