Lauma Skride's playing is ‘wonderfully sensitive, with marvellous tone quality, and always with highly virtuosic vigour’, according to a review by the Bayerischer Rundfunk. It is with these qualities, combined with brilliant technique, that Lauma Skride captivates audiences on major concert stages throughout the world, both as a soloist and chamber musician.

Lauma Skride, who was awarded the Beethoven Ring in 2008, is highly acclaimed for her interpretations of German classical and romantic repertoire. She appears with orchestras such as Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Ulster Orchestra, Hungarian National Philharmonic, hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, Hamburger Symphoniker, Dresdner Philharmonie, Essener Philharmoniker, Bremer Philharmoniker, Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg and Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria. She collaborates with conductors such as Pedro Halffter, Kristjan Järvi, Cornelius Meister, Andris Nelsons, Anu Tali, Muhai Tang, André de Ridder, Peter Ruzicka, John Storgårds, Yan Pascal Tortelier and Xian Zhang.

Lauma Skride is co-founder of the ‘Skride Quartet’, formed in 2016 together with her sister Baiba Skride, Harriet Krijgh and Lise Berthaud. The quartet have performed in major venues and festivals worldwide, including The Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall London, Schubertiade Hohenems, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Concertgebouw Brugge and Tanglewood Music Festival. In 2019 the quartet toured Australia and released their debut recording with ORFEO (Mozart, Mahler and Brahms), and in 2020 embarked upon an extensive US tour. Other chamber music partners include Anne-Sophie Mutter, Daniel Müller-Schott, Sol Gabetta and Julian Steckel, as well as Jörg Widmann, Christian Tetzlaff, Tanja Tetzlaff and the Armida Quartet.

For ORFEO, Lauma Skride recorded the Hungarian Dances by Johannes Brahms in an arrangement for violin and piano by Joseph Joachim with her sister Baiba, and more recently the two sisters recorded an all-Scandinavian programme. In 2017, she recorded Schubert’s Swan Song and Shostakovich’s Viola Sonate with the violist Pauline Sachse and most recently the album ‘Chapters’ with Dominik Wagner.

Born in Riga in 1982, Lauma Skride is the youngest of three daughters born to a Latvian family of musicians. She began playing the piano at the age of five and was later a pupil of Anita Paze at the Emils Darzins School of Music in Riga. She then studied under Volker Banfield at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg. Lauma Skride has participated in numerous international competitions since the age of eleven, among them the Maria Canals Competition in Spain and the Cleveland International Piano Competition in the USA and has won several prizes.
