Josephine (Fifi) Korda

British conductor Josephine (Fifi) Korda is conductor-in-residence of the Opera de Paris since September 2024, and the Grand Prix winner of the Neeme Järvi Prize at the Gstaad Festival Conducting Academy 2025. Known for her sensitive and evocative ways of sculpting sound, and imaginative rehearsal work based on profound analysis of the score, Korda is gaining recognition as a conductor with equally strong basis in opera, ballet and the symphonic repertoire.

Josephine Korda made her debut at Opera Holland Park in June 2025, where she conducted Jonathan Dove's "Itch" as their Young Artist Conductor. Previously, she participated in the contemporary conducting programme of the Lucerne Festival Academy in 2024, and was trainee conductor at Opera North in 2022/23, and assistant conductor at the Opéra de Massy in 2020/21.

Passionate about dance, she made her debut at the Northern Ballet with Romeo and Juliet in 2024 and returns in December 2025 to conduct "The Nutcracker". She works on new productions of "Nixon in China" and "Eugene Onegin" alongside Kent Nagano, Semyon Bychkov and Case Scaglione in the 2025/26 season at the Paris Opera. As part of the Neeme Järvi Prize, she has received invitations to conduct four Swiss-German orchestras in the 2026/27 season.

Korda studied composition and conducting at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, where she obtained advanced diplomas in conducting with Dominique Rouits and Julien Masmondet, and in composition with Régis Campo. In 2022, she earned a certificate of advanced studies in contemporary repertoire from the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana under the direction of Arturo Tamayo. In 2024, she graduated with a Master's degree in conducting from the Royal Northern College of Music in the classes of Mark Heron and Clark Rundell, and was awarded the Mortimer Furber Prize in conducting. She also holds an honours degree in music from Oxford University, where she was a choral and trumpet scholar. She has participated in masterclasses with Jaap van Zweden, Marin Alsop, David Reiland, George Benjamin, Jorma Panula, Sir Mark Elder and Antony Hermus.

Fifi grew up in London in a family of artists, filmmakers and dancers, and takes inspiration from diverse disciplines of art for her multi-sensory approach to music and performance. She lives in Paris, and in her spare time adapts Baroque arias for unusual formations or roams around the Auvergnat mountains foraging for seasonal produce.
