Baiba Skride is returning to the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
She will play Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 under the baton of Andris Nelsons, which was written in the late 1940s but only premiered in 1955, after Stalin’s death helped relax the constraints on artistic expression in the USSR. Performances are taking place on the 24./25./26. and March 1.
Ahead of her Boston Symphony performances this week, you can listen to the interview “Baiba Skride, Shostakovich, and the BSO – Classical Radio Boston”. A wonderful insight into the challenges of Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1 and why it is Baiba Skride’s all-time favorite.
