Following his highly successful performance of Henri Tomasi's Concerto for Alto Saxophone with the Boston Symphony Orchestra last season, acclaimed saxophonist Steven Banks will make his Pittsburgh Symphony debut this Thanksgiving weekend. Under the baton of PSO Music Director Manfred Honeck, Banks will be heard in a programme that includes his own composition 'Come as you are' for saxophone and piano, in an orchestral arrangement by Corey Dundee.
Written for large orchestra and infused with elements of popular and jazz styles, the Tomasi Concerto promises to showcase Banks' 'extraordinary command of the instrument', praised by critics for its 'deeply felt lyricism and warm, glimmering tone'. Fresh from completing his first studio album just last week, Banks is set to deliver remarkable performances.
Performance times:
Wednesday 29 November, 7:30pm
Friday 1 December, 2:30pm
Location: Heinz Hall, Pittsburgh (USA)
