This weekend pianist Seong-Jin Cho gives his first concerts as Artist in Residence of the Berliner Philharmoniker. He appears in three performances on 4th, 5th, and 6th October with conductor Parvo Järvi and trumpeter Guillaume Jehl.
The programme features Shostakovich’s Concerto No.1 for Piano and Trumpet, demonstrating Cho’s penchant for dark humour and sarcasm with his choice in his first appearance of many at the Philharmonie Berlin this season. In contrast, Bruckner’s Symphony No.1 with its tonal opulence offers solemnity and spirituality. The evening begins with Ouverture No.2 by Järvi’s fellow Estonian Veljo Tormis.
Remaining tickets can be purchased from the orchestra’s official website here.
Seong-Jin Cho next appears at the Philharmonie Berlin as part of his 2024-25 residency on 9th December with a chamber music evening.
