High praise for Andris Nelsons´ "Lohengrin" in Bayreuth

Only a day has passed since his debut in Bayreuth and yet Andris Nelsons has received excellent reviews from the international press. The „Süddeutsche Zeitung“ wrote that Nelsons´ musical direction „belongs in Bayreuth´s best in the past years, apart from Christian Thielemann´s ‘Meistersinger’ and ‘Parsifal’ of Pierre Boulez.” The „Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung“: „Nelsons throws himself into Wagner´s score with verve. The Vorspiel sounds silky and transparent, Ortrud´s and Telramund´s gruff motifs appear expressionisticly corrugated“ The Swiss “Tagesanzeiger” writes “under the direction of 31-year-old Andris Nelsons the orchestra plays clearly, elegantly, at no time bombasticly.“ In the French “Le Figaro” you could read: “The youngest conductor in the history of Bayreuth, Andris Nelsons, has completely baffled us once more. “
