Kazuki Yamada appointed Associate Conductor

The young Japanese conductor Kazuki Yamada begins his tenure as Associate Conductor at the NHK Symphony Orchestra with the beginning of the new season. Since 2006, he has been working there as choirmaster, then cooperating with Charles Dutoit and the orchestra. In September 2009, Yamada raised considerable attention by winning the 51th International Besançon Competition for Young Conductors together with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. His step-ins with the Orchestre de Paris and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande were met with immediate re-invitations. Highlights of the upcoming season are his debut performances in Berlin with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin and in London where he conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Centre.

LSO, LPO and Ogrintchouk at the Musikfest Berlin

This season´s Musikfest Berlin presents two of the best orchestras based in London. On 3rd September, under the direction of Daniel Harding, the London Symphony Orchestra plays the opening concert in the Philharmonie. On the programme: Luciano Berio´s “Folk Songs” and “Sinfonia”. On 6th September the festival, which focuses on the music of Berio and Pierre Boulez, also features the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Vladimir Jurowski performing the “Stanze” by Berio along with Webern´s “Passacaglia” and the 3rd Symphony by Prokofiev, also in the Philharmonie. At the same venue on 16th September, the oboist Alexei Ogrintchouk and harpist Frédérique Cambreling perform the Double Concerto for oboe and harp by Lutosławsk. They are accompanied by the Konzerthausorchester Berlin under Lothar Zagrosek.

Cello Concerto for Müller-Schott

The cellist Daniel Müller-Schott appears at the International Beethovenfest Bonn on 15th September, playing the world premiere of the cello concerto “…ÜBER DIE GRENZE” (“Across the borderline”), dedicated to him by Peter Ruzicka. The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen plays under the direction of the composer who, in 2010, features as both “Composer in Residence” as well as “Artist in Residence” at the festival.
