Orquestra de Cadaqués
Orchestras
The Cadaqués Orchestra was founded in 1988 as the resident orchestra for the Cadaqués Festival. Made up of professional musicians from throughout Europe, the orchestra convenes regularly to participate in major concert seasons and festivals in Spain and abroad.
The current Principal and Main Conductor is Gianandrea Noseda, winner of the 1994 Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition. Jaime Martín is the Chief Conductor and Sir Neville Marriner the Principal Guest Conductor. Since 1990 Llorenç Caballero is the artistic director. Jesús Rueda and Ainhoa Arteta are resident artists.
After its founding, The Cadaqués Orchestra acquired distinctiveness through initiatives such as organizing the International Conducting Competition, joint work with contemporary composers (Xavier Montsalvatge, Jesús Rueda, Joan Guinjoan and many others) and the incorporation of unpublished works into the standard repertoire, as well as collaboration with artists from other musical styles, such as Paco de Lucia, Tete Montoliu and Michel Camilo. Has collaborated with artists such as Alicia de Larrocha, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Jean Françaix, Rafael Orozco, Rafael Puyana, Narciso Yepes, Teresa Berganza, Ainhoa Arteta, Lisa Batiashvili and Maria Joao Pires.
Internationally, the orchestra has toured the United States and the Music Festival Santo Domingo (2005), Japan (2006) South east Asia: Toyota Classics Tour (2002 and 2007), and Germany (2011).
It is the resident orchestra in Ibermúsica’s season at the National Auditorium in Madrid. The Cadaqués Orchestra has an intense concert and pedagogic activity at the Girona Auditorium.
The Cadaqués Orchestra has recorded several CDs with Sir Neville Marriner, the Brahms symphonies and other works with Gianandrea Noseda and, with the recording label Tritó, presented "La corxera juganera", a collection of works of classical music for children.
