Andreas Weller

Tenor

The tenor Andreas Weller received his first singing lessons with the Stuttgart Hymnus-Chorknaben. He began his vocal studies with Prof. Bruce Abel in Stuttgart, where he also studied choral and orchestral conducting. He completed his postgraduate studies in music with Prof. James Wagner in Hamburg, graduating with a diploma in lied (with distinction). He was also a student in Prof. Wagner's solo vocal class at the Academy of Music in Lübeck. From 2002 until 2004 he has been studying voice with Christoph Prégardien and, together with his accompanist Götz Payer, he took part in Irwin Gage's advanced course in the lied duo at the Zurich Academy of Music.

He is an internationally sought-after “Evangelist” and oratorio soloist and collaborates with conductors and ensembles such as Frieder Bernius and the Musikpodium Stuttgart, Marcus Creed (RIAS Kammerchor / Concerto Köln), Daniel Harding (Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen), Thomas Hengelbrock (Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble), Philippe Herreweghe (Collegium Vocale Gent), Hartmut Höll (Hugo Wolf Academy), Konrad Junghänel (Cantus Cölln), Ton Koopman (Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra), Sigiswald Kuijken (La petite Bande), Jun Märkl (Radiosinfonieorchester Stuttgart), William Christie (Les Arts Florissants), Helmuth Rilling (Internationale Bachakademie) and Masaaki Suzuki (Bach-Collegium Japan).

Furthermore he can be heard at international festivals like the Festival Agora in Paris, the Resound Festival of Contemporary Music in Edmonton, the Soundstream Festival Toronto, the Festival Pôle d’Art Vocal de Bourgogne at Vézelay, the Festival Wratislavia Cantans at Wroclaw, the Festival de Wallonie at Namur, Les Académies Musicales de Saintes, at the Festival Klang & Raum Irsee, at the Festival International Echternach, the Festival van Vlaanderen and the Festival Bach de Lausanne.

Andreas Weller has participated in several CD productions (Carus, BIS, harmonia mundi france, among others) and has won first prizes for numerous contests. In 2002 he was awarded a scholarship by the Baden-Württemberg Arts Foundation an in 2004 he has received the Kiwani’s Music Award of Zurich.

Recent highlights include Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten with Arsys Bourgogne under the baton of Pierre Cao in Fontainebleau and at the Cité de la Musique Paris, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Thomanerchor Leipzig under the baton of Georg Christoph Biller on tour in Japan and Korea, concerts at the Festival Klang & Raum with Bruno Weil, Bach cantatas at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam under the baton of Frans Brüggen, Beethoven’s Missa solemnis at the Philharmonie Essen with Christoph Spering, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with Combattimento Consort Amsterdam and Jan Willem de Vriend, as well as Bach’s St. John Passion with the RIAS Kammerchor under the baton of Hans-Christoph Rademann and St. Matthew Passion with the Dresdner Kreuzchor and Roderich Kreile and with the Bachkoor Holland, Concertgebouw Kamerorkest and Roy Goodman.

In 2010/11 he sings Mozart’s Waisenhausmesse at the Festival Klang & Raum under the baton of Bruno Weil and the Christmas Oratorio with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich under the baton of Masaaki Suzuki.
