Bläserensemble Sabine Meyer

Kammermusik

The Bläserensemble Sabine Meyer owes its existence to the Lucerne Festival of Wind Music, annually in Switzerland for over 10 years. Sabine Meyer has been gathering a select circle of wind soloists around her every summer in the little town of Rumein in Graubünden Canton. These soloists (and friends) have retained their delight in music-making at a time when classical music has become heavily commercialised and, like Sabine Meyer herself, believe that peaceful surroundings and plenty of time are necessary for an interpretation to really develop and mature.

The Bläserensemble Sabine Meyer made its début in 1987 in the Swiss town of La Chaux-de-Fonds. Since then, the Ensemble has given many concerts in Germany and other European countries. They have appeared at various festivals (Berlin, Schleswig-Holstein, Rheingau) and, in 1994, they gave their first concert in Japan. In 2004/05 season the Bläserensemble gave it´s debut in Vienna in the Musikverein. This season the ensemble has concerts in Stuttgart, Vienna, Lucerne and La Chaux de Fonds.

The Bläserensemble Sabine Meyer has built up a broad repertoire, featuring not only the classical wind ensemble repertoire, but also a growing number of contemporary works. Many modern composers have written pieces for them, including Edison Denisov, Toshio Hosokawa and Niccolo Castiglioni. Alongside their activities in the contemporary sphere, the Ensemble is always aiming to include lesser-known classical works in their repertoire; works whose formal and musical artistry nonetheless has not stopped them from falling into oblivion. Examples of fine compositions they have regenerated are the Ensemble´s recordings of pieces by Franz Krommer and Josef Myslivecek. All recordings are published by EMI Classics. Following the release of a classical CD with works by Beethoven, their most recent recording is a CD with works of contemporary composers.
